Automated MSP & Fractional CTO Outreach Playbook

Growth Hacking Cold Email at Scale — The AI-Native Cheat Codes

Version: 1.0 Date: 2026-03-16 Owner: Dmitri Sunshine, Founder & CEO Purpose: Define the fully automated (or near-fully automated) outreach system for finding MSPs who serve wealth management firms and fractional CTOs — leveraging scraping, enrichment, AI personalization, and cold email at minimal cost. Builds on: MSP_Cold_Email_Outreach_Playbook.md, AI_Native_Outreach_Playbook_v1.md, RIA_Pain_Analysis_and_Sprint_Strategy_2026-03-14.md, Smartcuts_Wealth_Management_Entry_Strategy_2026-03-15.md, solanasis-referral-program-playbook-v1.1.md North Star: Build a system that costs <$300/month and <2 hours/week of Dmitri’s time to reach 1,000+ targeted MSPs and fractional CTOs per month.

1) The Strategic Logic — Why This Play, Why Now

The Insight from Our Existing Research

Our existing playbooks have validated several things:

  1. Compliance consultant partnerships are the #1 path to RIA clients (RIA Market Entry Senior Review). This is the high-trust, high-conversion play.
  2. MSP partnerships are multiplier nodes — one MSP partner = access to 20-100+ SMB clients (MSP Cold Email Playbook, Section 1).
  3. Cold email to end-clients (RIAs directly) doesn’t work well for a new firm — trust-gated market, 0.5-2% meeting rate (Senior Review, Gap Analysis).
  4. Cold email to PARTNERS (MSPs, consultants, fractional execs) works much better — they’re used to vendor conversations, have immediate pain, and the referral fee creates financial incentive.

The New Play: Automated Outreach to Partnership Channels

Instead of cold-emailing RIAs directly, we automate outreach to the people who already have RIA relationships:

WHAT WE'RE DOING WHY IT WORKS
─────────────── ─────────────
Cold email MSPs who serve They have the client base.
wealth management firms We offer a new revenue stream.
                                           15% referral fee motivates action.

Cold email fractional CTOs/CIOs They have the trust.
serving SMBs & nonprofits They can white-label our assessments.
                                           They need cybersecurity capability.

Cold email RIA compliance They're the distribution channel.
consultants (parallel track) They have 50-200+ RIA clients each.
They can't do technical cyber work.

The Math on Why This Is Worth Automating

Even at terrible cold email response rates:

MetricConservativeOptimistic
Emails sent/month1,0002,000
Positive reply rate1%3%
Positive replies/month1060
Calls booked from replies530
Partnerships formed/month1-25-8
Revenue per partnership (Year 1)17,50017,500
Cost to run the system~$200-300/month~$200-300/month

Even 1 partnership per month = 17,500 in 90-day revenue from a $300/month system. That’s a 25-58x ROI (Return on Investment). The math works even at the worst-case scenario.

Pro Tip (Smartcuts Principle — “10x Thinking”): The conventional approach would be to manually research and personally reach out to 20-30 MSPs per month. The growth hack is to automate the boring parts (finding, enriching, personalizing, sending) so your human time only goes to the conversations that matter. You’re not replacing relationship-building — you’re creating 10x more at-bats.

2) Target Profiles — Who Exactly We’re Reaching

Target A: MSPs Serving Wealth Management Firms

CriteriaTargetWhy
Size5-50 employeesSmall enough to lack in-house vCISO capability, large enough to have a real client base
Client verticalsServes RIAs, financial advisors, estate attorneys, CPAs, insurance agenciesThey already have the relationships we want
GeographyColorado first → Mountain West → nationalStart local for quick wins
ServicesBreak/fix, managed IT, cloud, help deskNOT security-focused MSPs (they’d see us as competition)
Pain signalsNo compliance offerings, no security assessment capability, clients asking about Reg S-P / FTC SafeguardsThey need what we offer but can’t build it
ContactOwner / President / CEO / vCIOAt MSPs under 20 people, the owner IS all of these

How to identify “serves wealth management”:

  • Website mentions financial services, RIA, wealth management, SEC compliance
  • Apollo industry tags include “Financial Services” in their client base
  • LinkedIn profile mentions financial advisor clients
  • Listed on RIA technology vendor directories
  • Google Maps reviews from financial services firms

Target B: Fractional CTOs / CIOs / CISOs

CriteriaTargetWhy
RoleFractional CTO, Fractional CIO, Virtual CIO, vCISO, Fractional IT DirectorThey do advisory work and need a delivery partner
Solo or small firm1-5 peopleThey can’t do everything themselves
Client baseSMBs, nonprofits, professional services firmsOverlap with our ICP (Ideal Customer Profile)
GeographyNational (fractional work is remote)No geographic limitation
Pain signalsLinkedIn profile mentions they need “technical partners,” posts about being overwhelmed, client base growing faster than capacityThey need delivery bandwidth
What we offer themWhite-label ORB delivery, co-delivery on assessments, referral fee for client introductionsThey keep the relationship; we do the technical work

Target C: RIA Compliance Consultants (Parallel Track)

Already extensively documented in RIA_Pain_Analysis_and_Sprint_Strategy_2026-03-14.md. This playbook adds the automated email channel on top of the LinkedIn-first approach already planned.

Source 3: RIA Technology Vendor Directories (High-Intent Signal)

These are MSPs that have specifically positioned themselves for financial services:

  • Schwab Advisor Services Marketplace — Browse cybersecurity/IT categories for RIA-focused MSPs
  • AdvizorPro / FINTRX — RIA firm profiles often list their technology vendors
  • Orion Advisor Solutions marketplace — Tech vendor directory for RIAs
  • Riskalyze (now Nitrogen) partner directory — Firms integrated with RIA software
  • Compliance platform partner directories (Vanta, Drata) — MSPs listed as implementation partners

Pro Tip: MSPs listed in RIA vendor directories are GOLD — they’ve already self-identified as serving this market. These should go into your “Tier 1 — Warm Targets” list and get extra personalization.

How to scrape these ethically:

  1. Browse the public-facing directories
  2. Extract names + company names
  3. Use Apollo.io or Hunter.io to find their business email
  4. Cross-reference on LinkedIn for additional context

Pro Tip (Smartcuts — “Platform Surfing”): These fractional executive platforms have already done the hard work of aggregating your target audience. You don’t need to find fractional CTOs one by one — you just need to scrape the directories they’ve already gathered themselves into. This is the same principle as using Estate Planning Councils to find attorneys.

│ ─── All orchestrated by n8n (or manual for Budget Stack) ── │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘

Pipeline Detail: Power Stack (n8n Automated)

Step 1: Weekly List Build (Automated via n8n)

n8n workflow template: “Apollo Lead Generation + AI Personalization + Instantly”

Trigger: Weekly schedule (Monday 6 AM)
→ n8n calls Apollo API with saved search filters
→ Returns 50-100 new contacts per week
→ Deduplicates against master list (Google Sheets or Airtable)
→ Passes to Step 2

Step 2: Email Verification (Automated)

→ n8n sends each email to Hunter.io Verify API
→ Keeps only "valid" results
→ Flags "accept-all" domains for cautious sending
→ Rejects "invalid" and "unknown"
→ Target: <2% bounce rate on final list
→ Passes verified contacts to Step 3

Step 3: AI Personalization (Claude API)

→ For each contact, n8n sends to Claude API:
  - Company name
  - Company website URL
  - Person's title
  - Company description from Apollo
  - Industry tags

→ Claude returns:
  - Personalized first line (25-40 words)
  - Best angle (revenue, client retention, competitive differentiation)
  - One specific detail about their company

→ n8n stores results in enrichment spreadsheet
→ Passes to Step 4

Example Claude prompt for personalization:

You are writing the opening line of a cold email from Dmitri Sunshine,
founder of Solanasis, a cybersecurity assessment firm.

The recipient is: {first_name} {last_name}, {title} at {company_name}.
Company description: {company_description}

Write ONE personalized opening sentence (25-40 words) that:
- References something specific about their company
- Connects to cybersecurity assessments or client protection
- Sounds like a fellow business owner, not a salesperson
- Does NOT use the word "I" as the first word

Return ONLY the opening line, nothing else.

Step 4: Load into Instantly + Launch (Automated)

→ n8n formats data for Instantly CSV import:
  - email, first_name, last_name, company, personalized_line, campaign_tag
→ Uploads to Instantly campaign via API
→ Contacts enter appropriate sequence (MSP or fCTO)
→ Emails send on schedule (Tue-Thu, 8-10 AM recipient's timezone)

Pipeline Detail: Budget Stack (Manual + Claude Cowork)

If you’re not ready for n8n automation, here’s the manual equivalent:

MONDAY (30 min):
1. Run Apollo search → export 50 contacts as CSV
2. Upload CSV to Claude Cowork → "Clean this list, remove duplicates,
flag any that look like security-focused MSPs (competitors)"

TUESDAY (20 min):
3. Upload cleaned CSV to Hunter.io free tier (25/month) or NeverBounce
4. Remove bounces

WEDNESDAY (20 min):
5. Upload verified list to Claude Cowork → "Generate personalized
opening lines for each contact based on their company and title"
6. Claude outputs enriched CSV with personalization column

THURSDAY (15 min):
7. Import into Instantly.ai
8. Assign to MSP or fCTO campaign
9. Launch

FRIDAY (10 min):
10. Check Instantly for replies
11. Forward positive replies to Claude → Claude drafts response
12. You review and send

TOTAL: ~95 min/week (1.5 hours)

Pro Tip (Growth Hack — “Build the Plane While Flying It”): Start with the manual Budget Stack. Once you’ve validated that the messaging works (positive reply rate >1%), THEN invest in n8n automation. Many growth hackers waste weeks building automation for messaging that doesn’t convert. Validate first, automate second.

6) Email Sequences — MSPs Serving Wealth Management

Context: What Makes This Different from Our Existing MSP Sequences

The existing MSP_Cold_Email_Outreach_Playbook.md has two solid sequences (Revenue Play and Competitive Differentiation). This playbook adds a wealth management-specific angle — targeting MSPs whose clients face SEC Reg S-P, FTC Safeguards, or ABA cybersecurity mandates.

Sequence WM-A: “Your Financial Services Clients Need This”

Email 1 (Day 1): The Regulatory Urgency Hook

Subject lines (A/B):

  • A: “Quick question about {company_name}‘s financial services clients”
  • B: “Reg S-P deadline — revenue opportunity for {company_name}”
{personalized_first_line}

I run Solanasis — we do 10-day security + backup verification
assessments specifically for financial services firms (RIAs,
estate attorneys, CPAs).

Here's why I'm reaching out: June 3 is the SEC Reg S-P compliance
deadline. Every RIA under $1.5B AUM needs documented proof their
cybersecurity controls actually work. That's creating a wave of
assessment demand.

If any of your clients are financial advisors or wealth management
firms, there's a clean partnership here:

We assess and document → Your team implements the findings.

15% referral fee on every assessment, capped at $2,500. Would a
15-minute call make sense to see if it fits?

Dmitri Sunshine
Founder, Solanasis
solanasis.com | 303-900-8969

Email 2 (Day 4): The Client Retention Angle

Subject: “The SEC question your financial clients will ask”

Following up on my note, {first_name}.

Here's a pattern I keep seeing: financial services firms get asked
by their compliance consultant "have you actually tested your
backups?" and "can you prove your incident response plan works?"

Most MSPs haven't been asked to produce this kind of evidence
before. The SEC Reg S-P amendment now requires it.

Our Resilience Checkup gives your clients (and you) documented
proof their systems can recover — and creates remediation work
for your team when gaps are found.

Either way, you keep the client. We just help you look like a hero.

Worth a quick look at the one-pager?

Dmitri

Email 3 (Day 9): The Soft Close

Subject: “Last note — here if timing works”

Last note from me, {first_name}.

Quick summary of the model:

1. You refer a financial services client (or we identify one together)
2. We run a 10-day assessment (security baseline + real backup restore
   test + SEC/compliance-ready documentation)
3. The findings create implementation work for your team
4. You earn 15% referral fee on the assessment itself

Non-competitive by design. We don't do managed services, break/fix,
or ongoing support. That's your lane.

If this is ever relevant, I'm an easy call away.

Dmitri
solanasis.com | 303-900-8969

Sequence WM-B: “The White-Label Play” (For MSPs Without Security Offerings)

Email 1 (Day 1):

Subject: “Adding compliance assessments to {company_name}‘s offerings”

{personalized_first_line}

Quick question: do any of your clients operate in financial services,
healthcare, or legal? If so, they're facing new cybersecurity
compliance mandates this year.

I built Solanasis specifically to help MSPs say "yes" when clients
ask about compliance assessments — without building a new service
line yourself.

We bring the methodology and documentation. You maintain the client
relationship. Co-branded or fully white-labeled.

15-minute call to explore?

Dmitri Sunshine
Founder, Solanasis
solanasis.com

7) Email Sequences — Fractional CTOs

Sequence FC-A: “The Delivery Partner”

Email 1 (Day 1):

Subject lines (A/B):

  • A: “Cybersecurity delivery bandwidth for your clients”
  • B: “Partnership idea for {first_name}”
{personalized_first_line}

I work with fractional technology leaders who need cybersecurity
assessment bandwidth for their client base.

Here's the scenario I keep running into: a fractional CTO has a
client who needs a security assessment or disaster recovery
verification, but the CTO's time is better spent on strategy
and architecture — not running vulnerability scans and testing
backup restores.

That's exactly what Solanasis does. A 10-day Resilience Checkup:
security baseline + real backup restore test + 90-day remediation
plan. Fixed fee, fixed scope.

You keep the advisory relationship. We do the hands-on technical
work. Your client gets a deliverable that makes you both look sharp.

Worth exploring over a 15-minute call?

Dmitri Sunshine
Founder, Solanasis
solanasis.com | 303-900-8969

Email 2 (Day 5):

Subject: “How other fractional CTOs are using this”

Following up, {first_name}.

The model is simple:

1. Your client needs a security assessment, DR verification, or
   compliance check
2. You refer them to us (or we co-deliver under your brand)
3. We execute in 10 days — you review the deliverables
4. You earn a 10-15% referral fee (15% for our first 10 partners)

No overlap with your strategic advisory work. We're the delivery
engine for the technical grunt work.

Founding Partner spots are limited. Want the one-pager?

Dmitri

Email 3 (Day 10):

Subject: “One-pager attached — no strings”

{first_name} — sharing our partnership overview in case it's
useful down the road.

If you ever have a client who needs cybersecurity assessment
work done quickly and professionally, we're here. Fixed fee,
10-day turnaround, your brand if you want it.

All the best,
Dmitri

What Claude CANNOT Do (Honest Assessment)

  • Log into Apollo/Instantly/LinkedIn — requires authenticated sessions
  • Send cold emails directly — needs dedicated infrastructure (Instantly handles this)
  • Scrape Google Maps live — needs Outscraper API or manual extraction
  • Click “Send” on LinkedIn — too risky for account safety (per AI-Native Playbook, Section 2)

The Claude in Chrome Enhancement (Per AI-Native Outreach Playbook)

For LinkedIn-based research on high-priority prospects:

SAFE (GREEN):
- Triage Sales Navigator results against ICP
- Create account briefs from profiles + company websites
- Draft connection notes and follow-up messages
- Mine content for engagement comments
- Export session notes to CRM format

USE CAUTION (YELLOW):
- Send 5-8 connection requests per supervised session
- Send 5-10 follow-up messages to existing connections

DON'T DO (RED):
- Mass connection requests (20+/session)
- Unattended long-run sessions
- Auto-commenting at scale

9) Growth Hacking Cheat Codes — The Unconventional Plays

Cheat Code #1: “The Signal Scrape” — Reddit + LinkedIn Warm Leads

The play: Instead of cold-emailing random MSPs, find MSPs who have PUBLICLY expressed the exact problem you solve.

WHERE TO SCRAPE SIGNALS:
─────────────────────────
Reddit r/msp posts about:
  "client asked about security assessment"
  "compliance requirements for financial clients"
"how do I add vCISO services"
  "client was breached"

LinkedIn posts where MSP owners:
  Comment on SEC/compliance content
Ask questions about financial services requirements
  Share articles about cybersecurity mandates

Google Alerts:
"MSP" + "financial services" + "compliance"
"managed services" + "RIA" + "security"

Why it works: These are people who have publicly expressed the pain you solve. Reply rates jump from 3-5% (standard cold email) to 15-30% (signal-based outreach) per industry benchmarks.

Automation: Claude Cowork scheduled task scans Reddit daily, flags relevant posts, drafts personalized outreach referencing their specific post.

Cheat Code #2: “The Competitor’s Customer” — Reverse-Engineer RIA Client Lists

The play: If CyberSecureRIA, Adelia Risk, or other competitors have public case studies or client testimonials, their clients’ MSPs are targets — because those RIAs already value cybersecurity, and their MSP is probably watching the competitor relationship and wishing they could offer similar services.

HOW:
────
1. Visit competitor websites → find case studies / testimonials
2. Identify the RIA firm mentioned (or industry/size clues)
3. Research who that RIA's MSP is (often mentioned on their ADV filings
or discoverable via tech stack tools)
4. Email the MSP: "I noticed [RIA firm] values cybersecurity.
We help MSPs like you offer that capability to your financial
   services clients."

Cheat Code #3: “The ADV Filing Goldmine” — SEC Public Data

The play: Every RIA files Form ADV with the SEC, which is public record. ADV Part 1A Item 9.C now requires disclosure of IT service providers in some cases. Even without Item 9.C data, the filing reveals:

  • Firm size, AUM, number of employees
  • Location, custody arrangements
  • Compliance contact information
  • Whether they’ve had disciplinary issues

How to use it:

  1. Search SEC IAPD (Investment Adviser Public Disclosure) database: adviserinfo.sec.gov
  2. Filter for Colorado RIAs, small AUM (500M)
  3. Download the list of firms
  4. Use Apollo or LinkedIn to identify each firm’s IT provider/MSP
  5. Email those MSPs with the RIA-specific pitch

This is legal, free, and available to anyone — but almost nobody does it because it requires connecting dots between two data sources. That’s the growth hack.

Cheat Code #4: “The Custodian Vendor Marketplace” — Institutional Distribution

The play: Schwab Advisor Services, Fidelity, and BNY Pershing maintain vendor marketplaces for their RIA clients. Getting listed here means inbound leads from RIAs who are already looking for cybersecurity help.

But the REAL cheat code is: the OTHER vendors listed on these marketplaces are your referral partners. MSPs and IT firms that serve RIAs list themselves there too.

HOW:
────
1. Browse Schwab Advisor Services marketplace → Technology category
2. Find MSPs/IT firms listed there
3. These are MSPs who have specifically positioned for RIA clients
4. They're already committed to this market
5. Email them the partnership pitch

Cheat Code #5: “The n8n Pipeline-as-a-Service” — Claude Code + n8n Automation

The play (2026 state of the art): Use Claude Code to BUILD the n8n automation pipeline itself. Claude Code can:

  1. Write the n8n workflow JSON
  2. Configure Apollo API calls
  3. Set up Hunter.io verification
  4. Write the Claude API personalization prompts
  5. Format Instantly.ai imports
  6. Schedule weekly execution

You describe what you want in plain English, and Claude Code builds the entire automation pipeline. Per recent research (Stormy AI, MarketBetter tutorials), growth hackers are now using Claude Code as a “vibe coding” engine to build custom data pipelines in minutes instead of weeks.

The result: A custom-built outreach machine that runs on autopilot. The kind of system that would cost 10,000 to have a developer build — done for the cost of a Claude Code session.

Cheat Code #6: “The Conference Attendee Scrape”

The play: Financial services conferences publish speaker lists and sometimes attendee lists. MSPs and IT vendors who attend these conferences are self-identified as serving this market.

TARGET CONFERENCES:
──────────────────
- T3 Technology Conference (advisor tech)
- Schwab IMPACT Conference
- FPA Annual Conference
- NAPFA National Conference
- RIA Channel Conference
- TD Ameritrade National LINC Conference

HOW:
────
1. Find speaker/sponsor lists (usually public on conference websites)
2. Extract MSP/IT vendor names
3. Enrich with Apollo for decision-maker contacts
4. Email with: "I noticed {company} was at {conference}..."

Cheat Code #7: “The Insurance Broker Triangulation”

The play: Cyber insurance brokers know which MSPs serve which clients. They also know which MSPs have clients that are FAILING underwriting (i.e., need cybersecurity help immediately).

Per our existing Cyber_Insurance_Broker_Cold_Outreach_Kit_v1.md, brokers are already in our outreach plan. Add this ask to every broker conversation:

“Which MSPs are you seeing that serve financial services clients? I’d love to connect with them — we can help their clients pass underwriting, which helps you close the policy.”

The broker gets their deal closed. The MSP gets a new service to offer. You get the assessment work. Three-way win.

Calls booked/month3-510+0 for 3+ weeksConsider pivoting angle
Partnerships formed/month1-23+0 for 6+ weeksEvaluate if this channel works

Kill Criteria

Kill the MSP cold email channel if:

  • After 500+ emails sent, positive reply rate stays below 0.5% for 4 consecutive weeks
  • AND subject line A/B tests have been exhausted
  • AND targeting has been adjusted at least twice

Kill the fractional CTO channel if:

  • After 300+ emails sent, zero partnership conversations in 6 weeks
  • AND messaging has been revised at least twice

If killed: Reallocate the sending volume to whatever channel IS working (compliance consultants, brokers, estate attorneys, etc.). The infrastructure is channel-agnostic.

Pro Tip (Growth Hack — “Fail Fast, Scale What Works”): The whole point of running multiple outreach channels simultaneously is to find out which one has traction. Kill underperformers fast. Double down on winners. The worst thing a growth hacker can do is keep pouring energy into a channel that’s not converting out of loyalty to the idea.

12) Risk Assessment & Compliance

  • Every email includes an unsubscribe link (Instantly handles automatically)
  • Every email includes a physical mailing address (CAN-SPAM requirement)
  • Emails are B2B only (higher legal protections for commercial outreach)
  • No deceptive subject lines
  • Clear identification of who’s sending (Dmitri Sunshine, Solanasis)
  • Opt-out requests honored within 10 business days (Instantly handles this)
  • Sending from dedicated cold email domain (NOT solanasis.com)
  • Email verification before sending (<2% bounce rate)

Reputation Protection

RiskMitigation
Cold domain gets burnedReplace for $10-15/year. Solanasis.com is never at risk.
Apollo data quality issuesAlways verify emails through Hunter.io before sending. Apollo bounces 10-35%.
LinkedIn account riskNEVER automate LinkedIn sending. Manual only. Per AI-Native Playbook.
Recipient complainsProfessional tone, immediate unsubscribe, physical address. CAN-SPAM compliant.
Accidentally emailing a competitorTag security-focused MSPs as “competitor — exclude” during list processing.
Over-sending to small marketLimit Colorado to 30-50/day max. Expand geography to avoid saturation.

Ethical Considerations

  • We’re offering genuine value (revenue opportunity, capability expansion)
  • The referral fee creates real financial incentive
  • We’re transparent about who we are and what we do
  • We don’t pretend to be anything other than a cold email
  • We respect opt-outs immediately

Key Strategic Alignment Points

  1. Compliance consultant partnerships remain the #1 play — this playbook creates a parallel automated channel, not a replacement.
  2. The MSP cold email channel targets PARTNERS, not end clients — consistent with the Senior Review’s finding that direct-to-RIA cold email doesn’t work.
  3. The referral fee structure is already defined (10% standard, 15% founding, 2,500 cap) — we use this exact structure in our cold emails.
  4. The sending infrastructure is the same — same Instantly account, same cold domain, just new campaigns.
  5. The “trusted perimeter” strategy is reinforced — MSPs who serve RIAs are another node in the wealth management ecosystem, sitting alongside compliance consultants, estate attorneys, and CPAs.

This playbook is the automated outreach layer for Solanasis’s partnership development strategy. It supplements — not replaces — the compliance consultant partnerships (RIA Sprint), LinkedIn precision outreach (AI-Native Playbook), and in-person relationship building (Estate Planning Councils). The goal is to create 10x more at-bats at minimal cost, so Dmitri’s human time goes to the conversations that matter most.
